Former Vice-President and African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar has claimed that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is 90 years old, saying he has evidence and records to support the claim and would present them in court.

Atiku made the statement during an interview with BBC Hausa while defending his decision to contest the 2027 presidential election despite concerns about his own age. He said he is healthy, strong and experienced enough to serve as president.

Responding to questions about Tinubu’s age, Atiku said: “You have a President who is 90 years old now and sick. I am healthy; I am strong. So why would I not make my services available to my fellow countrymen?” He added that he had evidence to prove his claim about Tinubu’s age and would present it in court.

Atiku also defended his repeated attempts to become president, saying his political journey had involved several setbacks, including what he described as disqualification by military authorities when he sought to become governor. He said his experience, competence and patriotism remain reasons for seeking the presidency.

On insecurity, Atiku blamed what he described as government irresponsibility and inadequate attention to security. He said that, if elected, his administration could control insurgency and insecurity within one year, while calling for stronger investment in Nigeria’s security forces.
